No. 18 November 2025 is the day identity verification became a legal requirement. It started a 12-month transition period. Your own deadline comes later, when your company files its next confirmation statement.

I'm a director of three companies. Do I have three deadlines?

Yes, one per company, because each company has its own confirmation statement date. You only verify once, though. The same personal code is then given for each company by its own date.

Does my deadline change if the company is dormant?

No. A dormant company still files a confirmation statement every year, and that statement sets the date in the same way as for a trading company.

If you were already a director on 18 November 2025, your deadline is your company's next confirmation statement (the yearly check that the company's details on the register are right). You must have verified your identity, and give your Companies House personal code, when that statement is filed.

Identity verification became a legal requirement on 18 November 2025. That date was the start, not the deadline. It opened a 12-month transition period that ends in November 2026, so that every existing director reaches a confirmation statement in that time.

Existing directors

Every company files a confirmation statement at least once a year. The first one the company files after 18 November 2025 is the moment that counts. Your personal code goes in with that statement.

So your deadline is not a fixed national date. It follows your company's confirmation statement date. If that date is in March, your deadline is in March. If it is in October, your deadline is in October.

If you are a director of more than one company, each company has its own date. You verify once, then give the same code to each company in turn.

New directors

A person appointed as a director now must be verified to be appointed. The personal code is given as part of the appointment filing, or when the company is set up. So a new director verifies before the appointment, not after it.

People with significant control

People with significant control (PSCs) run on a different timetable. It depends on whether they are also a director of the company, and for some people on the month they were born. The rules are set out in when a PSC's identity verification deadline falls.

How to find your exact date

Companies House now publishes each appointment's verification due date on the public register. You can see it for any company with our free director ID verification checker. Enter the company number and it lists each director and PSC with their date.

Where the register has no date for a director yet, the checker estimates one from the company's confirmation statement date and marks it as estimated.
