Accessibility

Last updated: 26 October 2026

DormantFile is for every director of a dormant company, including people who use a screen reader, a keyboard instead of a mouse, screen magnification or high-contrast settings. We aim to meet the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 at level AA, across this website and the app you file in.

What you should be able to do

  • use every page and every filing step with a keyboard alone, with a "Skip to main content" link at the start of each page
  • see where you are on the page as you move with the keyboard
  • zoom in up to 400%, or use a screen 320 pixels wide, without scrolling sideways
  • read every piece of text against its background in light mode and dark mode
  • stop movement: if your device asks for reduced motion, the moving backgrounds and counting numbers stay still
  • watch our product videos with captions, or read the described transcript under each one: what's on screen, then what's said
  • read the PDFs we make — copies of your filed tax returns and penalty appeal letters — with a screen reader: they're tagged with headings, tables and reading order
  • find your way with a screen reader, using page headings, labelled form fields and page regions

How we tested

On 26 October 2026 we tested 68 public pages, covering every kind of page on the site, and 23 pages of the app, including the dashboard, a company's page, both filing flows, settings, letters and the accountant's views. We tested:

  • automatically, with the axe-core accessibility checker, against every WCAG 2.2 level A and AA rule it can check, in light and dark mode, on desktop and phone screens
  • by hand, moving through pages with the keyboard to check every control can be reached and shows where focus is, and at 320 pixels wide to check nothing needs sideways scrolling
  • the PDFs we make, read back with a PDF reader's own tag view to check their headings, tables, reading order, language and title

We fixed everything these tests found. We haven't yet had an independent accessibility audit, or tested with every screen reader, so some problems may remain. If you find one, please tell us.

How far we meet the standard

This website and app partially meet WCAG 2.2 level AA, because of the problems listed below.

Problems we know about

  • Older tax return copies. Some copies of tax returns filed before we added tags were saved as they were made, and aren't tagged for screen readers. If you need one in another format, email us and we'll send it.
  • Video audio description. Our product videos have captions and a described transcript of what's on screen, but no spoken audio description.
  • Pages run by others. Card payments are taken on Stripe's own pages, and links to HMRC, Companies House and Trustpilot open their sites. We can't fix problems on those pages, but we'll help you another way if one stops you.

Tell us about a problem

If something on DormantFile is hard to use, or you need information in a different format, email hello@dormantfile.co.uk. Tell us the page and what went wrong. We'll reply, and we'll help you get your filing done another way while we fix it.
