File your dormant company accounts online

A dormant company files accounts at Companies House every year, and a Company Tax Return showing nothing to pay (a nil CT600) to HMRC when HMRC writes asking for one. We prepare both, you review them, and we send them straight to Companies House and HMRC — including dormant accounts that still carry figures from trading years. Then we keep watch over the rest of the year: deadlines, the confirmation statement, directors’ identity checks and the public register. £19/year, with a 14-day refund guarantee and free resubmission until your filing is accepted.

Both filings, and the year around them

Dormant accounts to Companies House

Prepared and sent through Companies House's own filing route for software — the same one the big accounting packages use. Just the share capital, or the figures a company still holds from its trading years. You preview the exact document before anything is sent.

Your Company Tax Return (a nil CT600) to HMRC

When HMRC writes asking for a Company Tax Return (a 'notice to deliver') — usually every year until it records the company as dormant — the return is due, even for a dormant year. HMRC's free filing service closed on 31 March 2026, so a return showing nothing to pay (a nil CT600) now needs commercial software. Ours is included.

A year of deadline monitoring

Reminder emails at 90, 30, 14, 7, 3 and 1 day before every Companies House deadline, confirmation-statement alerts, identity-verification reminders for directors who haven't verified yet, a daily check for changes to your company's record you didn't make — its directors, address, owners or name — and a check for strike-off notices.

Rejected? Fix and resubmit free

Prepare and preview everything free. If a filing is rejected, you correct and resubmit as often as you need at no extra charge — your subscription covers every attempt. And there's a full refund within 14 days if you haven't yet had a filing accepted.

An annual dormant company accounts service — not a one-off form

The £9 form-fillers submit one set of accounts. DormantFile is there all year: we prepare the accounts and the nil CT600, watch your deadlines and the public register, and chase you before Companies House penalties do.

Cheaper options exist — here’s the honest comparison

You can do all of this yourself. These filings are yours to make and plenty of directors make them. What you take on is the dormancy judgement, both filings rather than one, and a deadline eleven months from now that you have to keep track of yourself — where a miss is an automatic £150 penalty and forgetting has never been accepted as an excuse.

£9 one-off services file that one form. They submit the Companies House accounts. The nil CT600 — which has needed commercial software since HMRC closed its free filing service in March 2026 — isn’t included.

£19/year covers the whole ritual. Both filings — including dormant accounts that carry figures from trading years — the reminder ladder, identity-check reminders, the daily register watch, and free resubmission if anything is rejected. How it works

  • Find your company. Search the Companies House register; we read the public record and work out which accounts are due and by when.
  • Preview the exact accounts. We build the accounts in the digital format Companies House requires (iXBRL) from the register data — plus, if the company still holds figures from its trading years, the balance sheet you check and confirm — and show them to you before anything is sent. Preparing and previewing is free.
  • Authorise and file. Your company's Companies House authentication code (and, for the tax return, your own HMRC login) authorises the filing — we never file without you.
  • We watch until it's accepted. We keep checking for the result and email you the acceptance. Then the watchdog keeps an eye on next year's deadlines and the public register.

Filed direct with Companies House and HMRC — no paper, no middlemen.

Deadlines calculated from the register, monitored daily, reminded relentlessly.

Rejected returns are free to fix and resubmit, as often as you need — your subscription covers every attempt.

Common questions

Is this a dormant company accounts service or software?

Both. DormantFile files your dormant accounts with Companies House through software, and the £19/year subscription is an annual service: deadline monitoring, reminders, a watch on the public register, and support all year — not a one-off form submission.

Can you file my dormant company tax return (CT600) too?

Yes. The Company Tax Return showing nothing to pay (a nil CT600) is included for any period HMRC has asked for one — important since HMRC's free filing service (CATO) closed on 31 March 2026.

My company traded before and still has figures on its balance sheet. Can you file its dormant accounts?

Yes, if nothing significant happened in the year. Dormant means no significant accounting transactions, not an empty balance sheet, so a company that still holds money, assets or debts from its trading years can be dormant, as long as nothing about them changes in the year — nothing paid or collected, no interest added, nothing written off or written down. Its dormant accounts show those figures, and DormantFile files them: you enter the figures, or start from the ones in the company's last filed accounts, and check them before you continue. If there were transactions this year — repaying a loan, say — the company isn't dormant, and we file short micro-entity accounts (FRS 105) instead.

What does the £19/year include?

Dormant accounts filed at Companies House, the nil Company Tax Return (CT600) to HMRC, deadline monitoring with reminders, a daily watch on the public register, and free resubmission of rejected filings — your subscription covers every attempt, backed by a 14-day refund guarantee.

Both filings, ten minutes, £19/year.
