When is a PSC's identity verification deadline?

Stop keeping this deadline in your head

Every person with significant control (PSC) has a 14-day period to give Companies House their personal code and a verification statement. For people who were already PSCs on 18 November 2025, when those 14 days fall depends on whether they are also a director of the same company. New PSCs follow a third rule.

If you're also a director

Your 14 days start the day after the company's confirmation statement date. You give your personal code separately for each role: once as a director, with the confirmation statement, and once as a PSC, in this window.

Example. The company's confirmation statement date is 31 March 2026. Your 14-day period as a PSC runs from 1 April to 14 April 2026.

If you're not a director

Your 14 days are the first 14 days of the month you were born in. The day of your birthday does not matter, only the month.

Example. Your birthday is 24 February. Your 14-day period as a PSC runs from 1 February to 14 February 2026.

This is the case that catches people out. A silent shareholder or a family member who holds most of the shares may have no idea the rule exists, and their window has nothing to do with the company's own dates.

New PSCs

If you became a PSC after 18 November 2025, you must give your personal code within 14 days of being added to the register. You can give it at the same moment you are added.

Example. You are added as a PSC on 10 June. Your 14 days count from 10 June. The register shows the exact last day.

Asking for more time

If you can't give your details on time, you can ask for a 14-day extension through Companies House's PSC verification service. You can only ask once your 14-day window has started, and before it ends. You can't ask early, and once the deadline has gone it is too late.

If the reason you are stuck is the ID check itself, what to do if GOV.UK One Login can't verify you covers the other routes.

You can see each PSC's window on the public register with our free director ID verification checker.

DormantFile reads each director's and PSC's status from the register every day, shows it on the company's Directors tab, and emails you before each outstanding person's date, including on the free watchdog plan.
