How can I check if a director has verified their identity?

Look the company up on the Companies House register. For each director and person with significant control (PSC), the register now shows the date a verification statement was given and the date one is due. If there is a "given" date, that person has verified for this company.

What the register shows

Companies House holds identity verification details against each appointment, not just against the person. For every director, LLP member and PSC, the public record can carry:

  • the date an identity verification statement was supplied for this appointment
  • the date a statement is due
  • for PSCs, the date their 14-day window opens

A person who has verified with GOV.UK One Login but has not yet given their personal code for this company still shows as not supplied. The link between the person and the company is what counts.

Our free director ID verification checker reads these dates for any company. Enter the company number and it lists each person with a plain status.

What each status means

  • Verified. A statement has been supplied for this appointment. Nothing more is needed for this role.
  • Due in N days. No statement yet. The date shown is the register's own due date.
  • Due today. The last day is today.
  • Overdue. The due date has passed and no statement has been supplied.
  • Estimated. The register has no due date for this director yet. We work one out from the company's confirmation statement date, which is when an existing director's code is due, and label it estimated.
  • Half done. An authorised agent (ACSP) has checked the person's identity, but no statement for this company has reached Companies House yet. Companies House has said the "identity verified" date it publishes applies only to people verified by an ACSP. So a date there alone does not mean the job is finished.

If the register says someone hasn't verified

First, check the date. If it is still weeks away, there is time. If it is close or past, the person needs to act. Only they can verify, because it is a check of their own identity. For the order of steps, see when a director's deadline falls and our identity verification guide.

If the person has verified but the register still says no, they have probably not given their personal code for this company. What a Companies House personal code is explains where it goes.

DormantFile reads each director's and PSC's status from the register every day, shows it on the company's Directors tab, and emails you before each outstanding person's date, including on the free watchdog plan.
