How to add dormant company filing deadlines to your calendar

By DormantFile · Updated 27 May 2026

The biggest risk with a dormant company is not the filing itself — it is forgetting the deadline exists. Miss it and Companies House issues an automatic late filing penalty starting at £150. DormantFile generates a personal calendar feed (iCal) that puts your accounts and CT600 deadlines directly into whatever calendar app you already use.

Not signed up yet? You can still work out your deadlines with our free dormant deadline calculator and add them to your calendar manually.

What the calendar feed includes

The feed contains one event for each upcoming filing deadline across all your companies. Each event shows the company name, filing type (accounts or CT600), and the date the filing is due. Events appear in your calendar like any other appointment.

As you file or new accounting periods are created, the feed updates automatically. You do not need to re-subscribe or manually add new deadlines — they just appear.

How to set it up

The setup takes about a minute.

  1. Sign in to DormantFile and go to Settings
  2. Under Calendar feed, click Generate URL — this creates a unique, private iCal URL for your account
  3. Copy the URL
  4. Add it to your calendar app (see below)

The URL is private to your account. Do not share it publicly, but you can safely share it with a business partner or co-director who needs visibility of the same deadlines.

Adding the feed to your calendar app

Google Calendar: Open Google Calendar in a browser. On the left sidebar, click the + next to "Other calendars" and select From URL. Paste your iCal URL and click Add calendar. Events will appear within a few hours as Google syncs the feed.

Apple Calendar (macOS / iPhone / iPad): Open Calendar, go to File → New Calendar Subscription (on macOS) or Settings → Calendar → Accounts → Add Account → Other → Add Subscribed Calendar (on iOS). Paste the URL. Set the auto-refresh interval to daily or every hour.

Outlook (Microsoft 365): In Outlook on the web, go to Calendar → Add calendar → Subscribe from web. Paste the URL and give the calendar a name. Outlook will sync the feed automatically.

How it stays up to date

The feed is not a static file. Every time your calendar app refreshes (typically every few hours), it fetches the latest version from DormantFile. This means:

  • When you file and a period is marked as complete, the deadline disappears from the feed
  • When a new accounting period rolls forward, the next deadline appears automatically
  • If you add or remove a company, the feed reflects the change at the next sync

You never need to touch it after the initial setup.

Calendar feed vs email reminders

DormantFile also sends email reminders at 90, 30, 14, 7, 3, and 1 day before each deadline. The calendar feed and email reminders are complementary — the calendar gives you a visual overview of what is coming up, while the emails are harder to ignore when a deadline is close.

You can use both, or mute email reminders in settings if you prefer to rely on the calendar alone.

Key points

  • The calendar feed is a personal iCal URL generated from your Settings page.
  • It works with Google Calendar, Apple Calendar, Outlook, and any app that supports iCal subscriptions.
  • Deadlines update automatically as you file or new periods are created.
  • Use it alongside email reminders or on its own.
