DormantFile vs TinyTax

TinyTax is the closest thing we have to a twin: it files both returns — dormant accounts to Companies House and the nil CT600 to HMRC — direct and self-serve, for similar money. If you're choosing between us, the returns themselves aren't the difference. The difference is what happens the other 364 days: whether anyone is tracking your deadlines, watching your public record for filings you didn't make, and preparing next year's accounts before you ask.

Which should you use?

Choose TinyTax if…

  • You just want the two returns filed this year and nothing else — TinyTax does both sides properly, direct to the government.
  • You're comfortable tracking your own deadlines between filings and checking your own register entry from time to time.

Choose DormantFile if…

  • You want the year-round layer: a reminder ladder that gets louder as deadlines approach, a daily register watch with hijack alerts, and optional autopilot so next year is one click.
  • Your company isn't the standard case — a dormant LLP, a flat management or RTM company limited by guarantee, or a company that can't be dormant in law because of a Bounce Back Loan and needs FRS 105 micro-entity accounts instead.
  • You'd rather a rejected filing be a non-event: correct and resubmit as many times as it takes at no extra charge — the subscription covers every attempt.

Questions, answered

Do both TinyTax and DormantFile file directly with Companies House and HMRC?
Yes. Both services submit through the official government gateways — no accountant in the middle, no paper forms. That direct, self-serve model is exactly why we call TinyTax a genuine alternative.
Which costs less?
They're close. TinyTax publishes £20/yr excluding VAT; DormantFile is from £19/yr and that's the total — we're not VAT registered, so nothing is added at checkout. Prices change, so check both before you decide.
Can I move to DormantFile if I filed with TinyTax last year?
Yes. Enter your company number and we read your filing history straight from Companies House — including filings made through other services — so your dates and details carry on from wherever you left off.
