What is Companies House WebFiling?
By DormantFile · Updated 28 March 2026
Companies House WebFiling is the free online filing service provided by Companies House. It allows directors and company secretaries to file certain documents electronically instead of sending paper forms by post.
What you can file through WebFiling
WebFiling covers a range of Companies House filings, including:
- Annual accounts — including dormant accounts for dormant companies
- Confirmation statements (CS01) — confirming your company details are up to date
- Change of registered office address — form AD01
- Appointment and resignation of directors — forms AP01 and TM01
- Other statutory forms — change of company name, allotment of shares, and more
There is no charge for filing accounts through WebFiling (though the confirmation statement carries a £34 fee payable to Companies House).
What WebFiling does not cover
WebFiling is a Companies House service only. It does not handle anything that goes to HMRC. This means you cannot file a CT600 Corporation Tax return through WebFiling — that is an entirely separate filing to a different government body.
If your dormant company is registered for Corporation Tax, you need to file both dormant accounts (to Companies House) and a nil CT600 (to HMRC). WebFiling only handles the first of those two.
How DormantFile differs
We handle both filings from one place. Instead of using WebFiling for your accounts and separate software for your CT600, DormantFile lets you complete both submissions from a single dashboard. We also send deadline reminders so you do not miss a filing date and risk late filing penalties.
WebFiling is a solid free option if you only need to file accounts with Companies House. But if you also have a CT600 obligation to HMRC, doing everything in one place saves time and reduces the chance of something slipping through the cracks.
